Troop 412 has planned for a campout at the Omaha Zoo in January (10th & 11th). The plan is to leave Saturday morning early (targeting 6:30a departure) and drive up to Omaha. Once checked into the zoo, we’ll have some time to explore the zoo before the afternoon merit badge class – Oceanography. When the zoo closes at 5pm, the camping attendees will depart for dinner off zoo property. We’ll return to the zoo around 7pm with our indoor sleeping gear for a night in the Desert dome. On Sunday we’ll depart before the zoo opens for a trip back home. Cost for this campout is estimated around $80 but will be firmed up before the campout. Fees break down to $46 for the bronze camping package, $10 for the merit badge class for each scout, $TBD transportation fee and $TBD food fee. The plan is to not grub this campout therefore the three meals will be purchased. Participants are expected to have breakfast before we leave on Saturday morning. Scouts can also bring extra money for snacks or zoo swag. Electronics will be allowed for the drive up to and back from Omaha, but not during the campout time at the zoo. We will need a minimum of 25 participants to camp within the zoo and minimum of 6 scouts doing the merit badge (note: if scout is attending they will have to take the merit badge). The zoo requires a deposit three weeks ahead of time, so sign-up window close December 15.
